Birchwood Casey super blue?

I recently have decided to re blue my 12 ga winchester ranger the gun was cheap and I don’t want to sink much more money into it. Its been through it all and really needs the barrel redone. I got a birch wood casey bluing kit but am worried it will not work well or last. Can anyone give me some insight on the product or maybe another product that may be better. I like to do things for myself and really want to try so don’t give me the “get it done professionally” advice

BC has some good products. The super blue you bought gives a mostly black looking finish If I remember right. The other blue product in same container gives a blackish blue. And the stuff that comes in a tube container gives a blue finish.
Any finish will give you a “cold blue job.” The idea is to match the finish on the part of the firearm or complete firearm or change the finish altogether.
Bring your shotgun to a gunsmith shop and learn some about BC products and gun finishes.
Or do the job yourself and learn by doing.
BC has a reblueing kit which you remove the exterior finish totally and re blue. And it has individual products also.
The ranger is an inexpensive shotgun. Re blue the exterior and not the interior parts which are machined and finished to some exacting specifications.
And remember not to blue the interior of the barrels chamber or bore.
Another and…the barrel is steel. The receiver and trigger guard exterior may be some sort of aluminum alloy if memory serves. If the blue does not work on these parts, buy a bottle of aluminum black to attempt to resurface these parts.
At any rate, I remember the receiver has a different blue color than the barrel.
Cold blues will last a good long while although not as long as factory bluing.
Remember that old British sitcom in a clothing shop? And that famous quote? “It,” the garments long sleeves or pant legs,…”will ride up with wear..?”
The same is for cold blues…”It will wear off, in time and use…”
