I have noticed the description to the Walther P22 states that the barrel is interchangeable.
If it can be swapped for a 9mm chambered barrel, would a magazine designed for 9mm bullets fit in the grip and work with the firearm?

No, it would not. There are many issues with this, but you asked the right question; a magazine designed for 9mm would not come close to fitting.
